I should add that this same file had been used as my desktop background successfully in the past. I Right Clicked on it and chose "SET AS DESKTOP BACKGROUND". So, then I closed the Display Control Panel and manually navigated to the My Pictures directory. I then set the background to None and tried again. The system flickered as if it were trying to obey my command, but it ultimated failed to render my choice. The visual in the Display Control Panel did not reflect my new choice. option to the My Pictures directory and attempted to specify a graphic as my background of choice.
